"I Can Lick 30 Tigers Today! and Other Stories"

I Can Lick 30 Tigers Today! is a fun Dr. Seuss book. I read it with both my 6 year-old son and 8 year-old daughter and it met with high approval from both. Unlike other Dr. Seuss stories, there's a bit of a moral provided, but don't worry, there's the usual fun and chaos as well.

Since I got this book as a 'primer' my particular focus was on the reading level, and the Accelerated Reading designation is 2.9. 2.9 means that the book is suitable for children reading at an advanced Second Grade level. [2.9 really translates as a book that an "average" child should be able to read when in the 9th month of 2nd Grade.] If you have any questions about what all this AR stuff is about, I'll have links up on it shortly. It really is a neat tool. But in fact, this book can be enjoyed by people of any age.

What I have found is that Dr. Seuss books are exceedingly good for readers who are intimidated by large numbers of words. I've found that both my daughter and son can look at a page and just be absolutely stymied by the fact that there are so many paragraphs. With Seuss books though, they get so caught up in the the rampant silliness and fun that they forget how many words they are reading.

Considerations :::
I'd have to say that this is a great A-grade book for children who are still practicing reading, though I certainly wouldn't wait to expose any child to the fun.

I Can Lick 30 Tigers
has an Accelerated Reading (AR) designation of 2.9 which means that the average 2nd Grader in the 9th month of school should be able to read it without getting frustrated by the vocabulary. It can be read aloud to any age.

This is one of the books I could not wait to read to my boys -- especially since they always wondered why I talked about "snozzleberries" whenever I'm cooking...

I never knew how many books Seuss penned, nor that they composed an entire curriculum until just recently. Man's a genius.

And ya gotta love "snozzleberries"!
